Car Wash Clients

6 Jun

While at a CE class yesterday, I met a guy who began talking with me about a few marketing techniques he was looking to try out but, unfortunately, the agency owner where he works wouldn’t let him.  During our conversation, I happen to come up with an idea to share with him and now I’m sharing it with you…

It seems as though this time of year is the best time of year for getting your car washed at a car wash.  And every time I drive by one, I see a line around the block waiting to go through the soapy brushes.  So, I thought, why not offer these people a free car wash if they agree to do a free quote with you?  This would most likely work best for those soliciting life insurance or personal auto insurance and for those who have an app on their phone or ipad in order to complete this.  And, of course, you’ll need to be in a state where rebating is allowed.

Here’s how it would work:

First, you would need permission from the car wash owner in order to do this.  If he/she agrees, I would also ask for a discounted rate for those who you give a free car wash to.  You may also need to sell this idea to the owner by telling him/her you will market for this event which will ultimately bring more customers to the car wash as well.

Second, market, market, market.  You may want to hang fliers in the area offering the free car wash, post it to your social network pages, tell friends and family about the event and announce the event on your website and through press releases.  The more people you get to attend (even if they are only looking for a free car wash at first) is ideal.

On the day of the event, you’ll want to collect all the necessary information from the attendees as they are waiting in line for their car wash.  You may want to get an assistant or even another agent to help you out with this.

Then, when they exit the car wash, the idea is to have his/her quote ready.  If the potential client likes the quote, be prepared to have him/her do an electronic signature right on the spot or set up an appointment with you to discuss, sign and collect payment.  Of course, it’s always better if you can take care of everything on the spot.  If the potential client does not like the quote, you still have his/her contact information and you’ll be able to drip their email and snail mail with information or give them a call in a few months to try and solicit their business at a later date.

Your turn:  Have any of you tried something like this in the past?  How did it work out for you and do you have any tips for those of us who haven’t tried this yet?

A Signature Above The Rest

17 Apr

I’m always thinking of ways to get free real estate to promote my business and it recently occurred to me that your email, blog, etc. signature is a great way to get free advertising.   I know many of you are saying to yourself that you already have a great signature promoting your business but is there more you can do to make it even better?  Here are a few ideas for making your signature really stand out…

*Add social media buttons:  You can easily generate new linkedin connections or fans for your facebook and twitter pages by adding a button to your email signature.  If you have a gmail account, you can do this through http://www.wisestamp.com for free or if you have outlook, here’s the page with instructions on inserting a facebook link:     https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=444243614694   (Unfortunately, I have optimum.net and I haven’t figured out how to do this through their server yet so if any of you know of a way, please let me know!)

WiseStamp isn’t only limited to gmail accounts.  Once you download it and create a signature or two, you can right click on your mouse and insert a your signature just about anywhere.  Here’s mine:

I love how it allows me to create a logo and shows my latest facebook post as well as my latest blog post.
You could also spice up your signature by marketing a book you’ve recently written or maybe have a link for people to sign up for a conference you are giving in the near future.  Do you have a newsletter you want your potential clients to receive?  Provide a link to that.  The possibilities are endless!
Your turn:  Please share your creative signatures with us so we can be inspired by your greatness!  And, if you have any tips for us, please share.

Ummm…should I put my old signature here or my fancy new one? 🙂  Let’s go with the new one…

How To Capture Leads With A Landing Page

12 Apr

For today’s post, I’ve asked marketing expert, Dan LaCob of Tribal Style Marketing, to share his expertise with us.  I hope you all will gain valuable information from his article.   And, when you are done reading, be sure to follow his marketing blog (link is at the bottom).  Enjoy!

How To Capture Leads With A Landing Page

by Dan LaCob

This week I will be talking about Inbound Marketing.  Specifically, Online Lead Generation for a brick & mortar business.  One of the best things a small to mid-size local business who specializes in a service (rather than selling widgets) can do, is to educate their prospects or soon to be customers.  The best way to do that is to create a FREE Report in your area of expertise.  You’ll be able to use this report for what marketers call “Lead Capture”.  “What will we capture?” you ask.  Leads!  We want their first name & e-mail in exchange for the FREE Report that we’ll be sending them.

So what do you put in this report?  It could be any number of things, but since this is a Commercial Insurance Blog, I will stick to that.  First, we will have to think of a Title of our Free Report, & this must be really good because this title will be on our Landing Page “pre-qualifiying” our prospects or soon to be customers.  In other words, we want that title to resonate with that person who is searching for the “benefits” or “pain avoidance” points.  This title format focuses on the benefits our customers will receive immediately by reading our report.  For example, “20 Tips That Will Save You Hundreds On Your Auto Insurance”, “20 Tips That Will Save You Thousands On Your Next House Repair”.  Our soon to be customers would receive the benefits of gaining knowledge on how to save hundreds on auto insurance or how to save them thousands on a house repair.

The other title format we could do is to focus on the customers’ “pain avoidance” points.  For example, “20 Things You Must Know Before You Call A Plumber”, “10 Warning Signs Your Hot Water Heater Could Fail In The Next 30 Days”, etc.  Our customers want to avoid the pain associated with hiring the wrong plumber or ignoring the warning signs of an about to fail hot water heater.

If you’re having trouble creating your Free Report, just sit down & ask yourself, “What are the top 10 questions I get from my current customers?”  You can narrow it down quickly, just by doing that simple exercise.

Since we are talking about Commercial Insurance, we can name ours as “The Top 10 Questions To Ask When Purchasing Commercial Property Insurance; “The Top 20 Things You Must Know Before Purchasing Commercial Liability Insurance”, “-Workers Comp”, etc. etc.  I’d recommend having a different report for each type of Insurance with a different landing page that captures first names & e-mails, which then sends them to a link to download the Free Report, & also since they are now in your sales funnel, you can send them a nice newsletter every month or quarter.  It’s always smart to stay “top of mind” with your customers or soon to be customers.  You can test these different Lead Pages with any Online Advertising you do, & see which one converts better under what circumstance.

For the Landing Page itself, I would recommend a nice HTML template that you don’t have to fuss over or just go get Optimize Press for those eye dazzling high conversion pages!  If you have a Web Designer you frequently use, they can get you set up quick.  If you need help finding some templates or don’t know where to start drop me a line on my contact form & I’d be glad to help you.  Just make sure you have your .PDF Free Report ready to go, & of course your Lead/Landing Page Sales Copy.  Here are some awesome examples of high conversion Landing Pages, and also suggestions on how to make them better.

I’d recommend adding a short video of someone from your company explaining the benefits of signing up to get this Free Report.  Fancy introductions with over produced & polished graphics sometimes tends to backfire, depending on your industry.  It’s not necessary but it could provide you the extra 1% or 2% conversions you need.  Make sure you also have a strong call-to-action or (CTA).  What do you want them to do?  Browse around & gawk for 10mins?  Go back to their Facebook page?  No, you want them to put their name & e-mail in the box & sign up to get the report.  That’s it!  Over time, if you keep giving them great content, it will build enough rapport with them so they call you to do business with you.  Keep it simple, & you will succeed.

One last thing, make sure you’re not afraid to test, & re-test.  Then, you’ll want to test some more, & also you guessed it, you’ll want to test it again!  A/B split testing different headlines, different colors, designs, & copy is what the pro’s do, & trust me…it never ends!  Below is a link to my Landing Page for my “Top 5 Mistakes In Mobile Marketing”.  Your welcome to take a look at it & grab some tips.  I’ve taken this concept & turned my Free Report into a series of 5 separate e-mails to build rapport on automation with my soon to be clients/customers.  I’ve found in my mObile marketing niche, people tend to get overwhelmed quickly because this technology is still so new & has a tiny market share.

Thanks for the great information, Dan!  I’ve started working on a landing page for my website and will post it for everyone to see when I’m finished.   I’ve already created an article titled, “Top 10 Questions to Ask When Purchasing Business Insurance” and will be using that to generate leads through my page.

Your turn.  Do you already have a landing page?  If so, please share the link to your website so we can all see how it’s done.  If not, will you be creating one and what article are you planning on doing to capture leads?

New Facebook Page Timeline- Step by Step Part 2

5 Apr

If you followed the instructions from yesterday’s post, you now have a facebook page with an awesome cover and app icons to match.   The next step would be to create wonderful content behind those apps so when people click on them, there is something of interest.   So I did a little digging and found www.shortstack.com.  This is a great website where you can create apps for your facebook page (for free) and offer your fans promotions, contests, a way to contact you, etc.  After you’ve created a few apps, go back to your facebook page and make sure your color coded app icons are all in the right place so it looks cohesive and, you’re done!

Just so you know, Short Stack also offers premium services for a fee so, if you are so inclined to make your facebook page super special, feel free to do so.  But, there are quite a number of things you can do for free using their website.  Oh, and it turns out you do not have to create the separate apps on your own!  Short Stack does that for you!  (So sorry to those who spent precious time yesterday creating 12 separate apps.  I did the same thing before I found Short Stack.)

If you’d like, feel free to check out my facebook page (don’t be confused, this is my secondary business) at www.facebook.com/yourlifeinprint and click on my apps.   I plan on continuing to perfect my page as time goes on but I’m happy I’ve got it up and going.

Also, once you’ve completed the steps from both posts (Part 1 and 2), please share your facebook page link with us via the comments below so we can all be inspired by your creation!

The New Facebook Page Timeline- Step by Step

4 Apr

If you have a facebook page for your business, then I have no doubt you’ve been trying to figure it all out.  Maybe you’ve spent countless hours trying to create and publish the perfect cover or reading other blogs about all the changes.  If you’re anything like me, you’ve read a few of these articles about making a professional, cohesive facebook page for your business and left each article thinking, “Wow, that’s great.  But where are the instructions on how to do it?”

I’m here to tell you I’ve got it all figured out!  Well, mostly.  But, if I can do it myself (someone who has absolutely NO computer skills), so can you!

If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about or are just looking for some inspiration, here’s a page with a few creative facebook page timelines for you to peruse.  http://slodive.com/inspiration/showcase/facebook-timeline-covers/

Now that you are sufficiently inspired, I challenge you to make a creative timeline cover for your own business page.  But, again, we are left with the question of how?  Here’s a website I found where you can create timeline covers for free. http://www.myfbcovers.com/

What’s next?  Cohesive branding.   What do I mean, exactly?  Well, here’s yet another website I found online for you to look at first:

http://www.yhyqart.com/2012/02/29/facebook-timeline-world-famous-brand-pages-cover-designs-cool-ideas-fan-pages/

Notice how the majority of brand pages have apps along the bottom of their cover picture that match the design of the cover (the picture of live strong is probably the most well done).  I love this idea!  Yet, when I attempted to do this through my facebook page, I came up short.  So, I did some digging and found a way to add timeline apps (up to 12 separate ones) and found free (yes, free!) icon pictures in several different colors to choose from to match my theme.

First, adding the apps.  Go to

http://www.jonloomer.com/2012/03/25/how-to-create-multiple-facebook-timeline-apps-with-static-html/

and follow his instructions to add as many apps as you’d like.  I added 4 to my page.  It may look like a daunting task, but it was surprisingly easy!

After you’ve completed that, check out the same website page above.  On the top of the page to the right, you will see an offer to “Get your icons”.  Click on that and follow the directions.  They have a variety of icons available for each color group and 6 different colors to choose from.  I downloaded all the color groups in case I decide to change my business page in the future.

You may also want to add an icon for your photo app.  Here’s the site for those directions as well:

http://www.jonloomer.com/2012/04/02/how-to-edit-the-facebook-timeline-photos-icon/

Here’s something to note:  Know that when you click on those additional apps you added, as of now, there really isn’t anything there.  My next blog post’s mission will be to instruct everyone on how to create pages behind those apps (as soon as I figure it out myself!).  In the meantime, check out my facebook business page (don’t be confused, this page is for my secondary business):   www.facebook.com/yourlifeinprint  and let me know how I’ve done so far though it is far from done.

Your turn.  Do you have any other fun tricks for us to use while updating our facebook business pages?  Please send them along via the comments below!  I’d love to hear them!  Also, please share the link to your business page once you’ve completed the steps above so we can all check it out and become inspired by your success!

Happy facebooking!
